A Game of Classes

This week we have seen the method of gamification both in theory and in action. This term wasn't new for me, but I learned the difference between gamification and game-based learning and the importance of a narrative in gamification.

I particularly like the idea of gamifying a lesson or even the whole subject. One of my former PE teachers, who is now a professor at the University of Granada, has received an award for best teacher in Spain for his gamification about Game of Thrones. Isaac Pérez, a teacher of Physical Education, created during a whole course a narrative to gamify his class. The topic was very attractive to the students, as they represented the different houses of Game of Thrones and their objective was to conquer the Iron Throne. Even the smallest detail was perfectly planned, for example, they didn't send emails, they "sent ravens" to the teacher and their classmates.

I was very pleased when I read the news because Isaac was a really innovative teacher. If you are interested in the whole article, you can follow this link.

Although it is tough to create a good gamification lesson or subject, it is priceless the positive feedback you receive from students who appreciated your work.
